SOUTHBRIDGE — While most administrative positions at the middle and high schools will remain unchanged, there will be a new principal leading grades 6-8.
Southbridge Public Schools announced this week that the leadership team of Southbridge Middle High School will return to work in the 2020-2021 school year.
“We are dedicated to addressing the academic and social-emotional needs of all our students under any and all circumstances,” read a press release issued on Wednesday by Southbridge Public Schools. “This overall continuity will support that work.”
Returning to the team are Pat Danby, Dawn Micco, Aaron Couture, Sarah Houle, Jabián Gutiérrez, Amanda Miser, and Deborah Langlois. The notable change is the hiring of Jeff House as the principal of Southbridge Middle School.
House comes to Southbridge Public Schools from Achievement First Hartford Summit Middle School in Hartford, where he was the Academic Dean of Mathematics. He spent the last 13 years working in Achievement First schools where he held various roles such as principal, math consultant, leadership coach, academic dean, and middle school principal.
“In his roles as leadership coach and consultant, House partnered with public and charter school leaders, including those at New Haven Public schools, Hartford Public Schools, and Springfield Public Schools. In these school systems, he offered a unique training program to develop transformative leaders and to close the achievement gap in high needs public schools through the process of turnaround,” read the press release. “His past work focused on creating safe and high-achieving school communities. He also helped boost attendance rates at the schools he has worked with. He has spent his career working in high-needs schools, starting as a classroom teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, teaching a bilingual fourth grade class before moving on to teach sixth grade math in Boston.”
As the new principal of Southbridge Middle School, House is looking forward to being in service to a community of learners and improving outcomes for all students.
“I am very excited to be part of the Southbridge community and the effort to improve Southbridge Public Schools,” House said in a statement.
“Southbridge Middle School has made a great deal of progress over the past school year and I expect that improvement to accelerate under Mr. House’s leadership,” added Dr. Jeffrey Villar, Receiver of Southbridge Public Schools, in the press release.
