PALMER — While people may not be able to physically gather to remember those who gave their lives for their country, locals will gather displays of their patriotism this Memorial Day.
The Town of Palmer Veterans Service Department is organizing an event called “Palmer Memorial Day Door, Window, Home Decorating” as a means to celebrate the holiday amid COVID-19 precautions preventing traditional parades and observances.
Organizers encourage local residents to decorate the exterior of their residences for the period of May 17 through May 31.
“Sadly, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the current state policy on social distancing we cannot hold our traditional Memorial Day Service. This is not to say that we are going to cancel or postpone Memorial Day as that is not possible. Instead we are asking that all willing Palmer residents decorate their doors and/or windows, yards, homes, etc. in their best patriotic fashion,” reads a post on a Facebook event page created by the Town of Palmer Veterans Service Department. “Please post your pictures to this event page! We would love to see all your creativity in honor of those who gave their lives in service for this Great Country!”
