Help the visually impaired with “Dinner in the Dark”

Hitchcock Academy, First Church of Monson, Lions Club team up for meal

MONSON — It has been said that when one sense is hindered, others may be heightened. In an effort to help the visually impaired, a special dinner may prove to make tastebuds tingle.

Hitchcock Academy in Brimfield is teaming up with the First Church of Monson to help the Monson Lions Club with its “Dinner in the Dark” at the First Church of Monson, 5 High Street, Monson, on Saturday, May 18 at 6 p.m. Tickets for the event are $25 for adults, $10 for children age 14 and under.

Start with a blindfold, and dig into a specially prepared dinner. Discover more about the world for visually impaired and learn about some new technology being developed to assist visually impaired people. Food tastes very different without visual cues to pair with it. So, heighten your senses of smell, taste, touch and hearing as you make your way through the meal with friends. A family-friendly way to raise awareness and support the Monson Lion Club’s mission to provide free glasses to those in need and to support the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund.

Organizers require advanced reservations by May 15 to register. To register, or for more information, contact Curt at 413-668-6653, or send an email to
