‘Barefoot in the Park’ to run in February
SOUTHBRIDGE — The cast for Gateway Players Theatre’s next production has been announced as rehearsals will soon be underway for the community theater group’s February production.
“Barefoot in the Park,” written by Neil Simon and famously adapted into a Robert Redford film, will hit the stage on February 7, with subsequent performances on February 8, 14, 15, and 16.
Hadley Craine and Jason Iannone will assume the roles of newlyweds of Corie and Paul Bratter, respectively. Corie and Paul are over the moon to begin their life together in their new apartment in Manhattan. It may be small and a six-flight climb, the heating may be busted and snow may be falling through the skylight, but nothing can quash their newlywed bliss. Paul is a straight-laced lawyer and Corie a romantic free-spirit; nevertheless, opposites attract and the two are wild about each other.
Gail Riva White will play Corie’s conservative widowed mother, who is set up with an eccentric, bohemian neighbor, Victor Velasco (to be played by Patrick Bracken). A wild night ensues, one that highlights just how different Corie and Paul are. The young couple must learn how to accept and embrace their differences as they learn that marriage is no easy walk in the park.
Also cast in the forthcoming production were Sean Nault as the telephone repair man, and Dennis Gahagan as a delivery man.
