SOUTHBRIDGE — Magicians, singers, and bagpipes?
The Elm Street Congregational Church is putting together a variety show next weekend, an evening that organizers are billing as an evening of fun and entertainment that showcases the talent of local community members. The inaugural variety show will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall at 61 Elm Street on Saturday, March 10, at 7 p.m.
The variety show is being coordinated by Tom Lapriore and Lou-Ellen Corkum with help from other church members. Acts slated for the showcase include the Saint John Paul II Madrigal Singers, Gateway Players Theater, Pam Graves and her Chemistry Magic Show, bagpiper Peter Shorrok, pianist Eric Whilhelm, and singers Max Lapriore, Pam LaRue, Marleen Lazo, and Margarette Villa. Anyone interested in performing in the variety show should contact Tom Lapriore at (508) 764-7685 by Sunday.
The showcase is a fundraiser for the Elm Street Church Kitchen Fund as volunteers are raising funds to replace its existing dishwasher and other kitchen needs. Organizers said that while the dishwasher is “still compliant,” it is described as “on its last legs.” Maintaining compliance with health codes is vital as Elm Street Congregational Church offers free Simple Suppers to the Southbridge community each month. Those free meals have been offered for the past eight years and provide a hot meal to those who partake. The meals are supported by free will donations as well as donations from local businesses such as Big Bunny Market, Ed Stearns Dressed Meats, and Superior Cake Products, Inc.
In addition to the variety show, a services raffle will be held at the talent showcase. Services include a gift certificate for a free haircut at Copper Snips by Jessica at the corner of Elm and Everett Streets, a horseback riding lesson, caricature, two hours of gardening help, and a painting by a local artist.
Tickets for the variety show are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children. They can be purchased in advance by calling the church office at (508) 764-8058, or purchased at the door.
