Classic British mystery hits Gateway stage in November
SOUTHBRIDGE — Gateway Players Theatre will be holding auditions for “A Murder is Announced,” by Agatha Christie, adapted by Leslie Darbon, on August 25 and 27 at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall of Elm Street Congregational Church, 61 Elm Street. The entrance is on Park Street (around corner). The director is Erin Morin, and the producer is Mary Gahagan.
Performance dates are November 15, 16, 22, 23, and 24. Rehearsals will be on Monday and Thursday evenings. Presented by permission through special arrangement with Samuel French., Inc.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Since this is a classic British mystery, characters will have British accents, one will have a Hungarian-type accent, and Miss Marple is also in the cast. This promises to be in interesting production! For more information, contact Gateway at 508-764-4531.
Synopsis: An announcement in the local paper states the time and place when a murder is to occur in Miss Blacklock’s Victorian house. The victim is not one of the house’s several occupants, but an unexpected and unknown visitor. What follows is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed motives, concealed identities, a second death, a determined Inspector grimly following the twists and turns, and Miss Marple on hand to provide the final solution at some risk to herself in a dramatic confrontation just before the final curtain.
