Scratching up original art at Hitchcock Free Academy

Scratchboard Workshops slated throughout March

BRIMFIELD — Always wanted to create some original artwork? Hitchcock Free Academy invites you to scratch that itch.

Starting next month, a series of three classes on scratchboard art will be offered on Friday mornings. Scratchboard is a black-and-white drawing medium. The board itself is a piece of cardboard or panel with a thin coating of fine, white clay, covered by a layer of India ink. Artists draw by scratching white lines through the ink with a scratchboard nib.

The workshops, taught by Loretta Medeiros, will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on March 9, 16, and 23 at Hitchcock Free Academy, 2 Brookfield Road, on Route 20. There is a $50 fee for the entire series of classes with supplies included.
