Lack of hydrants necessitate tankers for “heavy fire”
LEICESTER — A large garage with multiple motor vehicles was engulfed in two-alarm fire late Sunday night.
Firefighters received word the 30-by-50 metal-clad garage at 322 Rawson Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders reported “heavy fire showing” at the garage, according to a statement released by the Leicester Fire Department early Monday morning.
A second alarm was struck as tankers were brought to the scene due to a lack of fire hydrants at the scene. Officials said the tankers were used until a water supply was established from the bridge area on Rawson Street.
Leicester received mutual aid from Auburn, Charlton, Paxton, and Spencer.
The fire department stated there were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
