AUBURN — Crews are working a truck fire and brush fire on I-290 West prior to Exit 9.

The Auburn Fire Rescue Department’s Engine 3 arrived at the scene of the vehicle shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday. The pickup truck was reported to be “fully involved in fire in the breakdown lane,” according to the Auburn Fire Rescue Department. The pickup truck was towing a trailer and crews were also battling a small brush fire on the side of the highway.

Engine 2 was quickly dispatched to provide more firefighters and additional water supply. At 2 p.m., the department issued an “All Call” for station coverage as all companies were working the fire on I-290, and expected to do so “for an extended period of time.” A tanker arrived to feed Engine 3 with a second line stretched for firefighters.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., Auburn Fire Rescue Department called for Engine 1 to be brought to the scene as well as requesting an engine from the Worcester Fire Department due to the need of additional water to battle the fires.

The Citizen Chronicle will continue to monitor developments and update this story as available.
