Bay Path’s Gosselin fans 14 in extra inning win

MARLBOROUGH — It took four runs in extra innings to decide a winner, but the Bay Path Minutemen improved to 8-3 with a big road victory on Thursday afternoon.

Bay Path scored three and gave up one in the eighth inning, securing a 9-7 win over the Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School Eagles. Sophomore secondbaseman Meagan Harding was crucial to the victory, giving the Minutemen the lead with a two-run single in the eighth inning and scoring an insurance run later that same inning.

Freshman hurler Sarah Gosselin worked all eight innings for the Minutemen, striking out 14 AMSA batters while surrendering five earned runs on seven hits and a hit batter. Eagles pitcher Erin Dean also went the distance, giving up nine earned runs on 14 hits and a walk, striking out eight batters.

The extra inning became necessary when AMSA tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Bay Path junior outfielder Izabelle Somicu utilized her speed to go 3-for-4 with a pair of bunt singles, two stolen bases, and scoring a pair of runs.
