AMHERST — The Tantasqua Warriors run toward a district crown has come to an end, falling 57-44 to the Northampton Blue Devils on Saturday night.

The West Division 2 District Tournament title game was played at the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s William D. Mullins Memorial Center with a 5:45 p.m. tipoff. Tantasqua was able to remain close to Northampton early, but the Blue Devils began to develop a strong lead as the game wore on. Northampton went on a 25-7 run, taking a 33-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Warriors made adjustments during the break, outscoring the Blue Devils in the third quarter and throughout the second half, but were unable to overcome the early deficit.

Tantasqua went 17-3 during the season, earning the second seed in the district tournament. The Warriors started their post-season push with a one-sided 57-22 win over the seventh-seeded Sci-Tech Cybercats of Springfield on March 1, then secured a spot in the finals with a 45-31 victory over the third-seeded East Longmeadow Spartans on March 5.

Northampton had posted a 17-3 record heading into the tournament, edging out Tantasqua for the top seed and securing a vital first-round bye. In the semifinals, the Blue Devils defeated the fifth-seeded Pittsfield Generals, 53-44, on March 5 at Western New England University.
