BRIMFIELD — Willis “Willy” R. Stearns, 83, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 26.
A lifelong resident of Brimfield, he was born there on March 30, 1935, and was the son of Carl and Marjorie (Batchelder) Stearns. He was a skilled truck operator for Red Star Express for 30 years and was the Steward for the Teamsters Union. Willie was an avid outdoorsman and took great pleasure in the many days spent hunting and fishing with family and friends and will always be remembered for his outgoing and gregarious personality. He was quite proud of his family and most especially enjoyed being involved and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis (Jalbert) Stearns along with their five children, Joyce Kajka (Mark) of Brimfield, Willis Jr. of Ft. Edwards, NY, Phyllis Gregoire (Raymond) of Southbridge, Kenneth (Elizabeth) of Turlock, Calif., and Mary Fusco of Holland. His twelve precious grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren along with his brother Deane Stearns of Palmer also survive him.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, James, Bruce, Robert, Russell and Lawrence. The family extends their gratitude to Fresenius Kidney Care Palmer for the wonderful care and comfort they provided to Willy.
A funeral service will be on Monday, October 1 at 10 a.m. at Beers and Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St., Palmer. Burial will follow in Brimfield Cemetery.
