Brenda A. (Macklin) Balkus, 81

LEICESTER — Brenda A. (Macklin) Balkus, 81, longtime resident of Rochdale, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

She leaves her beloved husband of 61 years, Kenneth J. Balkus, Sr.; her five children: Dr. Kenneth J. Balkus, Jr., of Texas, David J. Balkus and his wife Jodie, of Auburn, Michael P. Balkus and his wife Cheryl, of Auburn, Christopher J. Balkus and his longtime girlfriend, Deborah Jamieson of Bolton, and Lisa L. Worster and her husband Paul, of Auburn; her four grandchildren: Madeline Balkus, of Auburn, Kenneth J. Balkus, III, of Texas, Michael Worster, of Auburn, and Victor Balkus, of Auburn; her great-granddaughter, Zoey, also of Auburn; and a brother, John F. Macklin, of Plymouth. Brenda was predeceased by her parents, the late Joseph D. and Mary (Maguder) Macklin.

Born and raised in Auburn, Brenda was an Auburn High School graduate, Class of 1957. She married the love of her life, Ken, on September 26, 1959 and they settled in Rochdale in 1963 to begin their family. Brenda worked as a bookkeeper for many years, for various companies in the area.

She was a longstanding member and treasurer of the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post 279 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Auburn Elks, and a member of the St. Aloysius Ladies Guild of Rochdale.

Brenda enjoyed summers at their camp on South Charlton Reservoir and spending time in Fort Myers Beach, Fla. Some of her favorite past times were reading, gardening, and shopping.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her cherished family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Chester P. Tuttle American Legion Post 279 Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 88 Bancroft Street, Auburn, MA 01501.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Brenda’s family between 9:00 and 10:30 AM on Monday, January 25, 2021 at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central Street, Auburn. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford Street N., Auburn. Masks and social distancing measures will be required upon entering the funeral home and church. Burial will be held privately for the Balkus family.
