SOUTHBRIDGE — Alexandra (Kocaqi) Malisory, 109, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, in the Overlook Masonic Healthcare Center, Charlton, after a brief illness.
Her husband, Spiro Malisory, died in 1950. She was predeceased by her four children, Christie Malisory in 2004, Theodore Malisory in 1993, Loretta Meagher in 2017 and Shirley Martel in 2012. She leaves her sister, Donna Dhama of Toronto, Ont., Canada; her two sons-in-law, Gerald Meagher of Southbridge and Gregory Martel of Florida; her 7 grandchildren, Spiro Malisory, Michael Malisory, Lorna Desaulniers, Vera Larson, Darice Collie, Mona Fournier and Tracey Martel; her 11 great grandchildren, Stephanie, Brendan, Christina, Nicholas, Alec, Matthew, Emily, Stephen, Maria, Julia and Theodore; her great great grandson, Jayden; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Nicholas Mitro and Kosta Mitro and her sister, Thomiadha Sholla. Alexandra was born in Albania the daughter of Sterjo and Katrina (Kocaqi) Mitro.
Alexandra worked at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge for 23 years, retiring many years ago. She was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Romanian Orthodox Church in Southbridge and was a member and past president of the St. Michael’s Ladies Society. She was the oldest resident of the Overlook Community in Charlton and was the oldest resident of Southbridge prior to moving to the Overlook. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, gardening and cooking. She also enjoyed walking and frequently walked around her neighborhood. Alexandra loved the Boston Red Sox and attended her first game at the age of 100.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, June 9, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Romanian Orthodox Church, Romanian Ave., Southbridge. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours in St. Michael’s Romanian Orthodox Church will be held on Friday, June 8, from 5 to 8 p.m.
