SOUTHBRIDGE – Fire Chief Mark DiFronzo has given notice of his resignation and will accept a position as Fire Chief in Upton, Massachusetts.
Derek S.Brindisi, Town Administrator of Upton, confirmed Monday that the town is “actively in conversation with Chief DiFronzo about possibly being our next fire chief.”
DiFronzno has served with the Southbridge Fire Department for sixteen years. He has been Fire Chief for the last six years. Previous to that, he worked as a firefighter in Duddley for fifteen years. DiFrononzo started his long career in public safety 1982 as a call person in Dudley.
“He’s a great fire chief and he has done a great job for Southbridge,” said Southbridge Town Manager Ron San Angelo. “I have a lot of respect for him.”
“It is sad for Southbridge, but I am happy for Mark. This will be a good opportunity for him,” continued San Angelo.
DiFronzo has all positive things to say about his time with the Southbridge Fire Department. He describes the change as a career move that would benefit his family.
“I will miss many things about this agency,” DiFronzo said. “An opportunity presented itself and it was the right fit for me and my family,” he continued.
Many leaders and citizens in Southbridge have expressed that DiFronzo has led the Southbridge Fire Department with professionalism and will be sad to see him go.
“He was a great asset to the town. It’s sad to see him going. He takes years of experience with him. I wish him luck in his future endeavors,” commented Jose Dingui, Deputy Chief of the Southbridge Police.
