Spencer PD: Byrnes found “safe and uninjured”
SPENCER — A local elderly man was found after authorities issued a Silver Alert and called for the public’s help finding him on Monday evening.
The Spencer Police Department reported Thomas Byrnes, aged 85, of Spencer, “suffers from serious memory impairment,” had last been seen around 9 a.m. on Monday. Police reported shortly before 9 p.m. that Byrnes had been found in Worcester, “safe and uninjured.”
Byrnes had been described as a 5’7″ white male with grey hair, weighing approximately 180 pounds. Police said that in addition to his memory impairment, Byrnes takes insulin medication several times a day but is believed to not have insulin with him as of the issuance of the alert.
Byrnes left his home in an unknown direction around 9 a.m. on Monday. Police said he was driving a tan 2005 Acura MDX with Massachusetts license plates 852EA6. Authorities said Byrnes had made references earlier in the day about possibly going to Charter Cable in Worcester. Authorities noted Byrnes was located in Worcester, but did not note if he was in the vicinity of Charter.
This is not the first time the whereabouts of Byrnes has been unknown. Police said he was involved in “a similar incident in May,” ultimately being located in Holden.
