Locals to take part in World Wide Knit in Public Day

Library group to knit on Southbridge Town Common

SOUTHBRIDGE — Area knitters will be taking to the gazebo on the Town Common in a few weeks as part of World Wide Knit in Public Day.

The Jacob Edwards Library knitting group, Knitting With Sonya, will participate once again with the World Wide Knit in Public Day on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Southbridge Town Common Gazebo on Mechanic Street.

This is an opportunity for all knitters and crocheters to come together and do needlework in peace and harmony with people from all over the world. There is no charge, just come on down for as much time as you have. Bring your needlework and a chair. The gazebo has a roof, so no sunscreen needed.

The Southbridge Police Department at the end of the Town Common has publicly accessible restrooms. For snacks or beverages, Margaux’s Deli is across the street. WWKIP Day started in 2005 with 25 public events. Since then, the day has grown tremendously with many countries involved.

Check wwkipday.com for a list of the many participating countries and locations. We are very proud to be part of such an event. It is a wonderful way to come together, doing a fun activity, meeting people, making new friends, and celebrating a shared love. Hope to see you there. Rain or shine — but we do prefer shine!
