Donations still sought to help local food pantry
SOUTHBRIDGE — Helping neighbors put food on the table is a tradition each spring for local Foodshare volunteers.
The 39th Annual Foodshare Radiothon was held on Thursday, raising $29,800 for the Southbridge Foodshare pantry. Countless donations of canned goods and non-perishable foods were also turned in as part of the radiothon.
This year’s event was broadcast on Emmanuel Radio stations WESO in Southbridge and WNEB in Worcester. as well as the Southbridge and Charlton public cable access television stations. The all-day event was held at the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center. The radiothon is the main annual fund-raiser for the non-profit food pantry, which serves the needy in Southbridge, Sturbridge, Charlton and the Brimfield area.
Foodshare Radiothon volunteer and co-host John Ryan said while the annual event is now off the air until next spring, the need is ever-present. “Your donations are still needed,” Mr. Ryan said. “You can help the poor by calling (774) 318-8928.”
