Mother and child transported to a Worcester hospital

SOUTHBRIDGE — Expecting parents typically develop a birth plan, but sometimes the baby has plans of their own. This proved to be the case as firefighters helped deliver a baby girl on Friday morning.

According to the Southbridge Fire Department and Southbridge Permanent Firefighters Local 2194, a crew of four firefighters helped an unidentified woman deliver a baby “in the early hours of Friday morning.”

Four firefighters responded to a local residence for a report of a woman in active labor. With the baby coming, firefighters were pressed into action and assisted the woman in delivering what was described as “a healthy baby girl.” The fire department reported the baby’s delivery occurred “without incident.”

According to firefighters, mother and child were transported to a Worcester hospital.
