Stafford Street speeder had scale, baggies, and $12k at time of arrest

LEICESTER — A traffic stop for speeding led to the discovery of a large amount of marijuana and thousands of dollars in cash on Friday afternoon.
At approximately 1 p.m., Officer Charles Laperle stopped a vehicle that had been observed speeding on Stafford Street. As the officer checked on the vehicle’s registration, he learned it had been revoked. Laperle removed all passengers from the vehicle, the make and model of which was not divulged in a brief Leicester Police Department release.
As an inventory search was conducted prior to the vehicle being towed, police uncovered approximately 2 1/2 pounds of marijuana, approximately $12,000 in cash, a scale, and a number of plastic baggies within the vehicle.
Police report they are continuing to investigate the matter but have filed charges with the East Brookfield District Court. The names of any individuals charged, as well as the specific charges, have not yet been released.
