Driver appears not to have used seatbelt

LEICESTER — Two people were transported to an area hospital on Thursday afternoon after a pick-up truck crashed into a tree.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the area of 196 Chapel Street. Leicester Police said the truck’s operator “has indicated that the crash may be the result of a mechanical problem or failure.” Police noted the accident remains under investigation and noted the operator of the vehicle did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt, as suggested by the seatbelt being latched in place and close to the seat.

Police credited an unidentified nurse who stopped and assisted at the scene as well as an off duty police officer who also assisted.

  1. It’s interesting that when someone isn’t wearing a seatbelt, it’s always mentioned, especially if people are injured, but they never make it a point to say anything if the person wore one and they died or are seriously hurt.
