AUBURN — The Rockets suffered a difficult loss to the rival Oxford Pirates, ensuring they will not post a winning record this winter.
Oxford picked up a 42-26 road victory in varsity boys basketball action at Auburn High School on Monday night. The win was a team effort for the Pirates, with Jared Perkins and Joel Erickson setting the pace at nine points each, followed closely by Macaddai “Mac” Owusu at eight points. Every player on the stat sheet sank at least one basket for Oxford, who improve to 7-11 on the season.
Auburn was led by Craigon Confer’s eight points, all of which came in the first half of a low-scoring Rockets effort. Cam Bolduc chipped in with five points for the hometeam. Auburn falls to 8-11 on the year as a result of the loss.
The Rockets have lost four of their last five games, but hope to rebound on Thursday with a 7:00 p.m. tip off in Tewksbury. They will enter the Clark University Invitational Tournament in Worcester on Sunday, Feb. 18, with a 7:45 p.m. game against Quabbin.
Oxford wraps up its season on Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. road game against the Nipmuc Warriors in Upton.
