Auburn native tosses five scoreless innings
SACRAMENTO — Tyler Beede was strong in his fourth start of the young season, striking out six over five scoreless innings of work.
The Auburn native held the Salt Lake Bees to just three hits and one walk before departing the game with a slim 1-0 lead on Sunday. After the Bees picked up two unearned runs in the seventh inning, Beede’s hopes for his first win of the 2019 campaign were dashed.
The Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, were able to regain the lead on a two-run single by shortstop Abiatel Avelino. Former Boston Red Sox reliever Fernando Abad came on to close out the game and earn his first save as the River Cats picked up a 3-2 win.
Beede, 25, is 0-1 with a 2.04 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in four starts for Sacramento so far. He has struck out 28 and issued eight walks in 17 2/3 innings.
