Gemelli, Holbrook, Monteros lead Indians over Rams
GRAFTON — It was a total lineup contribution for the Indians as they defeated the visiting Shepherd Hill Rams 11-5 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Indians lineup tallied 13 hits, drew seven walks, and collected four hit batters in a game they controlled from the first inning on while Shepherd Hill pitchers struggled to keep Grafton off the bases. Pat Wilbur was knocked around for eight runs on nine hits and three walks over three-plus innings, while Matt Waterhouse gave up three runs on four hits and four walks over three innings of relief for the Rams.
Grafton shortstop Matt Holbrook went 3-for-4 with a double, hit by pitch, two runs scored, and three RBI while cleanup hitter and catcher Joe Gemelli pushed a run across the plate with a bases loaded walk in the fourth inning and blistered a two-run double in the sixth inning. Indians DH Tyler Monteros went 3-for-5 with a RBI double and scored three times.
The offensive support was necessary for Grafton as starting pitcher Brady Smolinski surrendered five runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits and four walks over five innings. Smolinski struck out five in his outing. Brady Fontana wrapped up the game for the Indians, working two scoreless innings of relief in which he yielded one hit and issued one walk.
