Sutherland, Sheehan combine for nine hits
WORCESTER — It was a pair of freshmen that led the charge for the Bay Path Minutemen as they took down the previously undefeated Worcester Tech Eagles on Monday afternoon.
Bay Path rookie hurler Sarah Gosselin struck out seven as she held the Eagles to two earned runs on four hits and a walk over five innings in a mercy-rule shortened contest in the city. Fellow freshman Kyleigh Sutherland racked up five hits with four runs scored and a stolen base for the Minutemen.
Evelyn Sheehan, a Bay Path junior, drove in three runs while going 4-for-4 with a triple in the win. As a team, the Minutemen collected 18 hits in the contest.
“The girls rallies behind Sarah’s performance on the diamond by getting out of jams defensively and stepping up offensively to provide her with enough support,” said Bay Path coach Rick Carrero. “Being a bit injured, this is the focus and play we want stepping into the second half of the season.”
