SOUTHBRIDGE — Roger F. LaFlamme, 88, passed away on Sunday, March 11, in the Southbridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, after an illness.

He leaves his wife of 62 years, Rose J. (Zachara) LaFlamme; his son, James R. LaFlamme of Southbridge; his two daughters, Brenda LaFlamme of Brimfield and Cathy LaFlamme of Southbridge; his brother, Fred Morin and his wife Jeannine of Southbridge; his brother-in-law, William Zachara and his wife Marie Lamica of Southbridge; his five grandchildren, Brandy Trinque of Dudley, Nathan Gould of Boston, Joshua Gould and his wife Abby of New Jersey, Nicholas LaFlamme and his fiancée Chelsea of Worcester and Nolan LaFlamme of Auburn; his four great grandchildren, Brent Pearl, Lizzy Pearl, Lucas Pearl and Nicholas LaFlamme, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his step father, T.P. Morin and two brothers, George LaFlamme and Ralph LaFlamme.  He was born in Worcester, the son of Henry L. LaFlamme and Elaine (Duquette) LaFlamme Morin.  Roger was a U.S .Army Veteran of the Korean War era.

Roger worked at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge for 40 years, retiring many years ago.  He also worked part time delivering newspapers for the Southbridge Evening News for 25 years.  He received two major rewards from the American Optical Co. for suggestions that helped to save the company. He was a member of St. John Paul II Parish in Southbridge.  He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing and was a lifelong member and past president of the Hamilton Rod & Gun Club in Sturbridge.  He was an avid golfer and in his younger years was one of the best Candlepin bowlers in the area.  He also at one time took Kung-Fu lessons.  Roger was a lifelong Red Sox fan and also an avid Patriots fan.  He was also a member of the Quinebaug Valley Campers.

The family would like to thank the staff at Southbridge Rehab, Western & Central Mass Hospice and Fr. Juan Herrera for all of the care and compassion they gave to Roger.

His funeral will be held on Friday, March 16, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 11 a.m. in Notre Dame Church of the St. John Paul II Parish, 446 Main St., Southbridge.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.  A calling hour in the funeral home will be held on Friday, March 16, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., prior to the Mass.
