Richard A. Menard, Jr., 66

JOLIET, Ill./CHARLTON — Richard A. Menard, Jr., 66, formerly of Charlton, passed away on Saturday, January 9, after a long illness.

He leaves his two sons, Richard A. Menard, III of Charlton and Sean P. Menard of Hudson, FL; his two daughters, Melissa A. Widing and her husband Marc Widing, Sr. of Charlton and Jennifer L. Martins of Spencer; his father, Richard A. Menard, Sr. of Charlton; his brother, Brian Menard of Dudley; his three sisters, Kathy Menard of Ware, Susan Pulda of Pecos, TX and Sandra Menard of Sturbridge; his seven grandchildren, Ashley Widing, Zachary Martins, Marc Widing, Jr., Anthony Martins, Richard A. Menard IV, Ashelyn Menard, and Raymond Jeffrey Yale Menard; many nieces and nephews; and his close friend since childhood Joe Plourde of Anaheim, CA.  He was born in Southbridge, the son of the late Alice (Mongeon) Menard. 

Richard (Rick) was a glazer, learning the trade from his father and grandfather, Adelard Alfred Menard, the former owner of A. Menard and Son’s Inc. Glass Company. He took great pride in his work, rising to a Regional Vice President position at an additional glass company before opening his own company, Tri-State Glass in Charlton.  After moving to Illinois, he became a member of the Glazers Union in Chicago.

Rick was always an avid lover of all water sports and particularly loved water skiing and surfing. He was happiest on a beach enjoying his friends or in the past playing with his children. During his high school years, Rick developed a love of acting and dancing and was in many school plays, and throughout his life could still recite many verses and loved to sing the show-tune songs.

His funeral will be held on Monday, January 18, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10:00am in St. Joseph’s Church, 10 H. Putnam Rd. Ext., Charlton.  Burial will be in West Ridge Cemetery.  Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Sunday, January 17, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
