SOUTHBRIDGE — Joseph F. Breen, 94, of Columbus Ave., passed away on Saturday, May 5, in the Overlook Masonic Healthcare Center, Charlton, after a brief illness.

His wife of 53 years, Lorraine E. (Bonnette) Breen, died in 2009.  He leaves his daughter, Sheila Demers and her husband Carey of Merrimack, N.H.; his two sons, Patrick Breen and his wife Cyndi of Apex, N.C., and Michael Breen and his wife Miyuki of Apex, N.C.; his five grandchildren, Nathan Demers and his wife Rebecca, Sean Demers, Patrick Breen, Jr. and his wife Amber, Riley Breen and Hannah Breen; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister, Mary A. Puracchio.  He was born in Southbridge the son of Patrick J. and Mabel S. (Foley) Breen.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving with the 296th Engineer Combat Battalion, a group that he was active with in their reunions.

Joe was a tool & die maker for Boniface Tool & Die in Southbridge for over 25 years, retiring many years ago.  He previously worked for Pratt & Whitney in Hartford and also at one time owned and operated a gas station in Charlton.  He was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish, now St. John Paul II Parish, in Southbridge.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 9, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church of the St. John Paul II Parish, 263 Hamilton St., Southbridge.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Southbridge.  Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, May 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.
