STURBRIDGE — Doris A. (Salce) Lesniewski, 97, passed away peacefully on February 4, at the Homestead House in Worcester, surrounded by her family, after a period of failing health.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Charles A. Forand in 1969 and her second husband, Anthony Lesniewski in 1990. She is survived by her two sons, Charles E. Forand and his wife Linda of Southborough and Michael A. Forand and his wife Marie of Holland; a step son, Paul E. Lesniewski and his wife Judith of Auburn; her step daughter, Mary Etezady and her husband Hossein of Malvern, PA; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was born in Southbridge the last of 12 children of Luigi and Rachel (Trifone) Salce. She was a longtime resident of Sturbridge having moved there in 1952. During her working years, she was employed by the American Optical Company in Southbridge and later by the Tantasqua Regional School District in Sturbridge. She was a past member of the Sturbridge Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary and until recently, an active member of the Sturbridge Senior Citizen Center. She was a communicant at St. Anne’s Parish in Sturbridge. Doris enjoyed travel with her family in this country and abroad, working in her garden, baking Italian pastry and watching “her” birds from her favorite rocking chair on her porch. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Homestead House and the Jewish Health Care Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness they provided to Doris in the last months of her life.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 11:00am in St. Anne’s Church, 16 Church St., Sturbridge. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Sturbridge. A Calling hour in the funeral home will be held on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 9:30 to 10:30am, prior to the Mass.
