MONSON — Carl E. Russell, 80, passed away May 5.

Born in Franklin, Penn. on August 26, 1937, he was the son of Herbert E. and Ethel M. (Whitmer) Johnson. Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during Korea.

For 31 years, Carl worked as a general manager of production at Hamilton Standard. In his leisure, he enjoyed golf, poker, camping, and fishing. Many summers were spent with his family at Mumford Cove in Groton, Conn. Carl and his wife have been winter birds in Davenport, Fla. since 1991.

Carl will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years, Jean S. (LaForest) as well as his children, Mark and his wife Carla Russell, Terry and her husband Louie Picco, and Kevin Russell all of Monson. He also leaves his brother, Jim Smith of Fla., six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Carl was predeceased by his daughters, Carol Lynn in 2004 and Kim at her birth, as well as two sisters, Mary and Kathy.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 9 from 4-7 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home. A funeral service will be Thursday, May 10 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Donations in Carl’s memory may be made to a veterans’ charity of one’s choice.
