STAFFORD SPRINGS — Barry F. Smith, 75, of Stafford Springs, Conn., passed away on Monday, April 30, with his family by his side in the Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, after a long illness.

He leaves his loving wife of 37 years and together for 50 years, Francine A. (Surprenant) Smith, who he adored.  He also leaves his daughter, Amber L. Start of North Brookfield; his three grandchildren, Bryan Start, Sarah Start and Terry Lytle; his brother, Brian Smith and his wife Arlene of Stafford Springs, Conn.; his brother-in-law Joseph Poirier of Bradenton, Fla.; along with a very large extended family.  He was predeceased by his sister, Geraldine Poirier.  Barry was born in Ware, the son of the late Francis B. and Ruby E. (Frink) Smith.  He was a graduate of Tantasqua Regional High School in Sturbridge, Class of 1961.

Barry worked at the Wm. E. Wright Co. in West Warren for 46 years, his entire career, retiring in 2007.  Barry was an avid outdoorsman who loved working around his farm and being with his family and friends. He will be missed dearly and will always be remembered for his bright blue eyes, big smile and sense of humor.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 15, at 10 a.m. in the First Congregational Church of Brimfield, 20 Main St., Brimfield.  Burial will be private.
