18th Century Encampment & Muster

SUTTON — The 13th Continental Regiment will be hosting a military and camp-follower muster on the 120 acre Waters Farm in Sutton for all American and French forces.

This event will be an opportunity to learn and practice 18th Century skills as a soldier and camp-follower.  We’re hoping to have lectures, demonstrations, and hands on experiences.

Some ideas that have been discussed so far include: Soldiers school, Officer training, Military maneuvers & Light Infantry tactics, Von Steuben and 1764 Drill, Cooking demos, Working with the Artillery, Camp shaving, Receiving military rations, Camp laundry, Children’s games, Drum commands in camp and on the field, Tavern games, and Learning period songs.

All activities will be optional, so attend what you want during the weekend.  A schedule of events will be created for the weekend. This will be a great weekend to share skills and knowledge, plus have some fun.

Public will be attending this event.  Weekend activities can be just for the public or just for the reenactors.  Tavern activities will be just for the reenactors.

If you would like to give a lecture, demonstrate a craft/trade, or enhance your living history experience by trying something that hasn’t been done at past events, please let us know.

Barnstorm Baggers Show

SPENCER — The Barnstorm Baggers Show is the brainchild of Barnstorm Cycles designed to bring the custom bagger community in the northeast together for a mid-summer party!

From big wheel baggers to performance-minded bagger builds, this show is the place for it all! Join us wtih Grim Co. Stunts, enjoy food, beer, games, contests, prizes, vendors and more!

The Barnstorm Baggers Show will be from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Barnstorm Cycles & Jeeps 24 Wall St. Spencer.

Blessings Farm’s “Ride for the Ponies”

CHARLTON — Motorcycle ride to support Blessings Farm!  Registration begins at 9 a.m. (kickstands up at 11 a.m.) at 232 Podunk Road in Sturbridge and ends at the Leicester Town Common for live music, food, give-aways and Fun!

Colonial Muster & Drill

STURBRIDGE — Flash back nearly 250 years and experience the Sturbridge Historical Society’s 23rd Annual Sturbridge Minuteman Muster on the Town Common. The rain or shine event, put on with the support of the Sturbridge Tourist Association, will tell the story of Sturbridge in 1775. There will be fife and drum music, muskets, and an informative program. Camp opens at 4 p.m., the Fife & Drum Concert begins at 6 p.m., and Sturbridge in 1775 runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Family Fun Fest on the Leicester Common

LEICESTER — An afternoon of free fun for the family. Free food, kids games, face painting, live music, a live animal show, and more. Hosted by Greenville Baptist Church, the Family Fun Fest runs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the Leicester Town Common.

Farmers Market at Hitchcock Academy

BRIMFIELD — There will be a farmers market in the Hitchcock Academy parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Handball Tournament

SOUTHBRIDGE — A free 1-wall doubles handball tournament will be held at the Henry Street Handball Court. Everyone is welcome to play!

First place winners guaranteed $150 and trophies while second and third place winners will receive trophies. Food and beverages will be provided.

Sign-ups run from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with matches beginning at 11 a.m. There is a 1-game elimination to 21.

There is a rain date of June 29.

International Festival 5K

SOUTHBRIDGE — Since 2012, Saint John Paul II Parish hosts the Annual International Festival integrating Latin American, French, Italian, Canadian and Polish cultures. With live music, traditional foods, folkloric dancing, along with other competitions, games, raffles, and a day filled with activities, the community comes together to celebrate and enjoy the rich traditions.

For 2019, the day begins with a 5K Walk/Run that has a starting time of 9 a.m. Registrations for the event starts at 8 a.m. International Festival starts as the race finishes.

The cost for the Walk/Run is $15 Adults $10 Kids. Checks made payable to Saint John Paull II Parish.

Laid Baid Competitive Baseball League

MENDON — The Central Mass Expos (4-1) play a doubleheader at Veteran’s Park. At 3 p.m., the Expos host the Nuts (1-4), followed by a 5:15 p.m. contest as the road team against the Shrewsbury Surfers (1-4).

SOUTHBRIDGE — West Street Field is the site as the Southbridge Spectacles (5-1) take on the role of road team at their home field against Lomuscio Trucking (3-3) at 9 a.m.

STURBRIDGE — At Turner’s Club Field, the Sturbridge TinCaps (1-3) look to make it two in a row as they host the Alliance (4-1) at 9 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., the TinCaps will play the second game of a double header, hosting the Charlton Suggonmuhogs (1-4).

Legally Blonde

STURBRIDGE — Stageloft Repertory Theater presents “Legally Blonde: The Musical” with a 8 p.m. show on Saturday.

Elle Woods appears to have it all. Her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Determined to get him back, Elle ingeniously charms her way into the prestigious law school. While there, she struggles with peers, professors and her ex. With the support of some new friends, though, Elle quickly realizes her potential and sets out to prove herself to the world.

Morris Street Yardsale

SOUTHBRIDGE — St. Michael’s Church on Romanian Avenue off of Cisco St. will be joining the Morris Street Yard Sale. The sale will start at 9:00 AM and continue until the last person leaves. The yardsale table donation is $25.00. We will also be having a Bake Sale featuring Spinach Pie, Baklava, Orange Nut & Date cookies, Kurabies, Twist cookies as well as other delicious pastries. A picnic lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers will be available!

Auditions for “Tuesdays with Morrie”

SOUTHBRIDGE — Auditions for “Tuesday with Morrie”, by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom, based on the book by Mitch Albom, will be held on Sunday, June 23 at 6 p.m. and Monday, June 24  at 6 p.m. in Fellowship Hall of Elm Street Congregational Church, 61 Elm Street, Southbridge. Entrance is on Park Street (around corner). Two men, ages 65-75 and 32-40 are needed for this production. Performance dates are September 13, 14, 20 & 21 at 7:30 p.m. and September 22 at 2 p.m. Rehearsals will be on Mondays and Wednesday evenings.  Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Presented by permission through special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service. Suzanne Adams is the Director, and Kathi Grenier is the Producer. Connecticut Historic Gardens Day

WOODSTOCK, CONN. — Celebrate the sixteenth annual Connecticut’s Historic Gardens Day with a guided tour of the formal parterre garden at Roseland Cottage, chosen by Connecticut Magazine as Connecticut’s Best Public Garden. Learn the history, significance, and theory behind the garden layout and design, and how that design reflects the theories of Andrew Jackson Downing. Guided tours on the hour, 12-4. This event is free.

LEICESTER — At 9 a.m., the Rochdale Bulldogs (1-4) host the Charlton Suggonmuhogs (1-4) at Rochdale Park, the first half of a doubleheader for the Bulldogs. In the latter half of the doubleheader, Rochdale takes on the role of the away team at their home park against Lomuscio Trucking (3-3) at 11:30 a.m.

SHREWSBURY — The Nuts (1-4) travel to Sherwood Middle School for a 9 a.m. game against the Shrewsbury Surfers (1-4).

SOUTHBRIDGE — West Street Field is the site of another LBCBL doubleheader. In the 9 a.m. tilt, the Southbridge Spectacles (5-1) are the away team against the D.C. Whitecaps (2-2). At 11:30 a.m., the Whitecaps host The Alliance (4-1).

Leicester Public Library Grand Opening

LEICESTER — The official grand opening of the renovated Leicester Public Library will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., 1136 Main Street, Leicester.

Memory Mile Walk

STURBRIDGE — The Memory Mile team is raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Association in two events on June 23. From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westville Lake Recreation Area will be a walk and 5K with food truck. The 5K run starts at 9 a.m. From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., the fun will continue at Hyland Orchard & Pavilion, 199 Arnold Road, with live music by Specific Gravity, The Coalboilers, and Booty & The Jett.
